Learning - Interpersonal Communication and Skills with Mehvish Saleem

The learning in IPCS class is a very interacting experience. Many day to day conducts are rectified and integrate those with professionalism. Learning includes the purpose and goals of interpersonal communication. How to make it effective? What principles to follow. Some sessions are very provoking to apply those things for the good.

The most learning sessions of the course were self-esteem and conflict management. Presentations and role play made us learn a lot. Innovations and unique presentations by all groups was a learning process.

Self concept and self esteem make us to ponder on our grooming and it adds value to our lives in real terms. This was the point in life when I put the status on Facebook that this semester would make us learn what self esteem is all about, which is really effective. Values and believes are taught which we relate with leadership skills as they are taught in our OB course.

Another skill which is very necessary for professionals is listening. Its importance can be analyzed by the research which considers listening as a key attribute of effective leaders and persuaders

Effective listening skills and its importance were taught. Most valuable stuff is that I started listening things with more concentration and observing the environment which groomed me. Non verbal language was taught with excellent proficiency regarding and many professional aspects were covered which was of great importance. 

Time and stress management skills were really effective and its application can bring success in all walks of life. It is so important for the employees and individuals that companies invest thousands of rupees to make their employees efficient regarding it.

Effective steps of stress management should be applied which plays key role in your success.

Persuasion is the most important skill which is covered in the course which is necessary for the managers and leaders. When once ma’am asked about any event where persuasion skills are applied by us? A situation hit my mind and I wonder I never ponder on it.

Conflict management makes us learn key attributes necessary for the managers and leaders. It develops negotiation skills in the students and the role play added the value to foster our thinking and building our skills up to the level required.

Motivation the key skill for managers and our management, OB courses talks a lot on it. Motivation has become a key skill for the corporate and today to catch the market of youth. 

Motivation has gained so much popularity that many trainers are running their business on the word MOTIVATION. It is a key factor to consider on which many corporate trainers are working. Many corporate gurus have talked a lot about it and described it by several theories. Therefore its awareness let us know the importance as a future leader/ manager.

Desolate Road and I

On my strange meeting with a guy and it was time at night. Waiting for the bus to come was coming back from TIME OUT – FORUM after taking the interview of Brand Manager Loreal Pakistan. A friend of mine dropped near allied bank at Khalid bin waleed road. It was a dark night though I was waitng for the bus and the silent road. I was of the view YAAR MOBILE NA CHEN JAE :-p

A old age uncle came and ask where you will go, he look so strange to me though I was talking him in a very positive manner. I replied North Nazimabad. He said I want to go there as well. I said acha and was silent. He said in which block you live. I said uncle block L , he said acha I am also going there. I said OK!

Finally the bus came and do not what was the GOD’s will but he sat with me in the bus. He want to talk to me and want to know something which I did not understand :/

He said should I tell you something if you wont mind. I replied go ahead uncle. He said I know a friend he went so states and was very generous. He earned a lot there and was ready to help his friends and relatives in Pakistan. He has a very close friend and he send him some gifts on regular basis and once he send him a car. *I wonder when he was telling me this why I don’t have such friends* :p

Though he said the friend at states called the Pakistani and told him that he is coming to Pakistan on the mentioned dates. When he depart from airport he expects that friend would be waiting for him but no one was there. He called him no one is receiving the call. Then the guy called on his residential phone and he come to know that his friend went for fishing on the car he gifted him :@

Oh my how on can feel having such friends :/ *I thought I am not that friend …. Shukar*

He said his last words as my stops was near. Beta we all are like the Pakistani friend because GOD has bestow us with naimats and all stuff and we don’t pay heed to his call :/

LESSON learned was very strong! This travel by bus changes my life … how a layman can teach you something what you have never imagined. An experience never to forget J

FACING THE GIANTS - Transformational Leadership

The film – facing the giants another movie full of inspiration. A movie which involved me for 1:50minutes. Though I again find it not only the movie but the complete way leaders, team and organizations works.

The movie portrays the story of a coach the story starts showing the failures of the coach in his personal and professional life. He has some biological issues and that was a cause they had no child. In professional career he was a coach of a high school football team and no improvement in there performance for past 6years. Now with personal issues he came under a conspiracy done by management with his assistant to kick him out !!!

All the waves of de motivation is discouraging him to loose hope and faith. But GOD has selected him for some work I guess!

He prayed to GOD to show him the way and guide the path to live in the best manner. The other day at office he met a messenger who taught him some verses from the holy book which is the turning point of his life and the film.

His strategy to motivate his team changes and leadership persuasion was all depends on belief on the power of ALMIGHTY!

Though rocky is used as an igniting agent for the team when unleashed potential is disclosed by the coach. He does a simple change THE PERCEPTION!

He made them realize what are they capable of and how to fully utilize their hidden potential. The faith has worked enormously unbelievable that the team started winning the games and reached to the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP *A moment to look behind and thank to GOD to raise us from zero to hero*

The belief on GOD was so strong now they find football as a way to please their GOD with the skills they have. Just prepare to give your best and success is yours. The happy ending of the film and the positive message had a great impact on my heart and soul.

Recognize your power, your potential, your GOD – and how powerful HE is. Once take step after believing HIM you never be guilty of it.

CHICKEN RUN - With the eyes of Organizational Behavior

The movie chicken run is not only the movie but it teaches a bundle of lessons to achieve organizational goals.

The communication process and unity among the chickens were awesome and a little disagreement leads to a chaos which distracts productivity of all. The movie shows strategic planning of chickens utilizing all powers (resources) efficiently with joining hands with their partner no matter they are rats. Politics is all about maintaining relations and utilizing them at the right time. In the same manner effective communication process and teamwork was marvelous.

Ginger stands out as a leader among all giving chickens a vision and mission. With all capabilities ginger thought about not only one but all the folks around. Leader is one who never thought of its own success but he tries his best to take his team with him. Ginger character shows a chicken with high spirits, positive approach and S.M.A.R.T goals. When you care for your sub-ordinates they care for you as well. When ginger was saved by her people was an excellent example of team work. The scenario also depicts that leaders don’t go for anything individually they always work on collectivism.

Ginger as a leader motivated all the chickens with the power of visualization. Dream that becomes a reality. A land of chickens where no one can rule them and they won’t be slaughter anymore if don’t lay eggs. This motivation works and finally they achieve the ultimate success and goal they want on which ginger worked day in and day out with his team.

Aren't we amazing - protest at IoBM

I was caught in shock, seeing a sudden drama. Some of us are in resentment and forging our Pakistani Identity like never before!!

The story starts with the protest by residential near CBM they blocked the road because they don’t have electricity.

First of all why they don’t have electricity was it’s their fault or KESC? Mostly load shedding of long duration are done in the areas where leakage of electricity is above par. Many homes are running on KUNDA system. If the scene is this then no reason to protest!!

If the story is other way round then it should be a chaos free protest why Pakistanis always creates mess for their own people?

What is the reason to stop students from going to their educational institutes?

Students from CBM, BIZTEK and PAF KIET were stuck badly! We feel content by punishing those who by no means were part of all the mess.

Now the second part is far more interesting :/

Our very own IoBM management was not aware of the situation LOL!

Instead of immediate action they are waiting for some more interesting stuff to happen. Where is all decision-making stuff we taught on daily basis? Does our university have that?

More than 15 vans were there on the main road with no security. Management makes us stand there for approximately an hour. What was the reason? Cant they identify the situation and take a quick decision?

If some student get harmed or else what gonna happen?

Have heard from many seniors about IoBM management sluggish decisions but experiencing it was really pathetic. We are considered to be an elite business school, so where we ourself? Are we delivering what a reputable business school in Karachi should deliver?

What image would society portray of such careless attitude?




P.S We love our university but some management issues :/ i heard students cursing them please anyone who read pick out the positive message to rectify it for future. Some comments by students add how harmful it can be.
